"Walk & Learn" sessions are a unique and effective format for puppy/adolescent training, designed to fit seamlessly into busy schedules while maximizing the learning experience for both puppies and their owners. In these sessions, the training is divided into two parts:
Private Training Time: The first half of the session, typically lasting about 22.5 to 30 minutes, involves the trainer working one-on-one with the puppy without the owners present. This allows the puppy to focus solely on the trainer and the learning process without the potential distractions of having the owner nearby. During this time, the trainer employs positive reinforcement techniques to teach the puppy essential real-world skills, how to remain calm and neutral in various social settings, and basic obedience commands.
Review and Guidance: In the second half of the session, the owners join the trainer and the puppy to review what has been taught. This portion is dedicated to explaining the techniques used, demonstrating the puppy's progress, and providing the owners with the necessary tools and knowledge to continue the training at home. Owners can ask questions, practice the new skills with their puppy under the trainer's supervision, and receive personalized advice.
For those with particularly busy schedules, this format is highly beneficial. It ensures that the puppy receives professional training during the crucial early stages of development, while also allowing the owners to stay informed and involved without needing to commit to being present for the entire session. However, if preferred, owners can opt to be present for the entire session to observe and participate throughout.
