Erinn Spicer CTB.CCS, IPDTA-CDT
With over five years of experience in shelter environments as both a volunteer and staff member, I have dealt with a wide range of behavioural concerns, from under-socialization and lack of manners to high reactivity and aggression. I specialize in working with dogs experiencing fear and reactivity, drawing on my extensive background to provide effective and compassionate training solutions.
I know how challenging and overwhelming it can be to own a reactive dog. My own rescue American Bulldog, who was highly dog reactive, has made tremendous progress through our dedicated training efforts. This personal experience has strengthened my commitment to helping other dog owners achieve similar breakthroughs.
I am a Certified Dog Trainer/Behaviour Therapist through Canine Correspondence Studies (CTB.ccs) and a Certified Dog Trainer (IPDTA-CDT) with the International Positive Dog Training Association. These credentials equip me with the knowledge and skills to address a variety of behavioural issues using positive reinforcement techniques.
At Redefined K9, I offer in-home training sessions tailored to each dog’s specific needs, as well as one-on-one walk & learn private sessions where dogs work directly with me in social settings. Owners do not need to be present for walk & learn sessions, though not all dogs will qualify for this style of training.
Join Redefined K9 to transform your dog's behaviour and enhance the bond between you and your furry companion through personalized, positive reinforcement training.
Being Fear Free Certified highlights my commitment to creating a stress-free, positive environment for dogs during training. A fear-free approach is essential because it prioritizes the emotional well-being of dogs, reducing fear, anxiety, and stress. This method ensures that dogs are more receptive to learning, as they are not hindered by negative emotions. By using techniques that make dogs feel safe and comfortable, we can prevent behavioural issues that stem from fear and build a foundation of trust and confidence. Ultimately, a fear-free approach leads to happier, healthier dogs and stronger, more positive relationships with their owners.
Positive reinforcement matters because it builds trust and strengthens the bond between dogs and their owners by rewarding desired behaviours. It creates a stress-free learning environment, reducing fear and anxiety in dogs. This approach promotes long-term behaviour change, as dogs are motivated to repeat actions that earn rewards. It enhances clear communication, making training more effective and enjoyable for both dogs and owners. Additionally, positive reinforcement is an ethical science based training and humane method that aligns with best practices in animal welfare.
Bear, a dog who initially came in as a stray, was later discovered to have been dropped off and abandoned by his owners under a false name. Upon arrival, Bear exhibited extreme fear reactivity, growling, lunging, and barking from within his kennel, preventing anyone from approaching him. Through consistent sessions focused on building trust using positive reinforcement techniques, Bear underwent a remarkable transformation. He learned to walk on a leash, mastered basic obedience commands, attended vet appointments, and behaved calmly in public settings. Eventually, Bear's progress led to his adoption into a loving home.
